Skipping...

I live in an obese society where it seems that that striving for PAWfection these days seems more about LOSING yourself than finding yourself... in the age of the gym where the body is considered a sculpture, it seems PAWfection is attained not when there is nothing left to add, but only when there is nothing left to take away!!! I realise that no one got ahead by sitting on their behind, and I do my regular walkies, but I am a township rescue and I really simply do not like the feeling of hu...

Part 2: First Supervised visit - on the way to becoming a Therapy Dog (July 2010)

Posted by Gumby Pana on Wednesday, July 6, 2011, In : Dog Blog

We did our usual Delta Park double circuit walk in the morning and then I was thoroughly bathed and groomed in preparation for meeting some other PFP dogs and handlers and discussing future visiting venues and schedules... little did we know this was to be my FIRST (of 6) mandatory supervised visits which I need to do before I can become registered as a Therapy Dog.

Lesley De Klerk, founder and West Rand unit leader of Paws for People®, asked us to  be at St Michaels, Cornelius street in Wel...

Part 1: Evaluation to become a Therapy Dog (June 2010)

Posted by Gumby Pana on Wednesday, July 6, 2011, In : Dog Blog

Clearly all the obedience training I had got had made me a GOOD dog, but what was it going to take for me to become an even BETTER dog? How would I not only be fulfilled but fulfil my potential as "man's best friend"... just imagine my joy and excitement when we came across the Paws for People® website  Http://www.pawsforpeople.co.za

My Facebook status that night was: I feel so free... here's who I can be, am inspired and in awe and want to be more... found a place I think I can be, more ME!!!

It's a Dog's Life

Posted by Gumby Pana on Wednesday, July 6, 2011, In : Dog Blog

I am one of the luckier Rescues... One of the Happy Tails!

I was born in a township, and although my family didn't just leave me on the dusty streets but handed me over at a Community Led Animal Welfare (CLAW) Outreach Clinic, I still felt very much abandoned.

The day I arrived (the 27th of January 2009) there was a new lady, D, wanting to do some voluntary work for CLAW, and she took a pic of me...

She then bathed me and did the best she could to get some of the matting out of my hair. I lov...

A bit about me

Gumby RIP GUMBY - your PAWsome legacy and insPAWration will continue ❤your mom, Dido Abandoned in a township, and rescued by CLAW (Community Led Animal Welfare), I went on to be adopted and embraced by the Blagden-pack and taken to dog training where I was certified as a Canine Good Citizen. I am registered as a Paws for People Therapy Dog and visit lots of special people in various institutions. I foster a few CLAWbies who have been neglected, abandoned, abused or need some special TLC outside a shelter. I am also very involved in networking animals needing to find their PAWfect forever home and PAWsome happily ever after! Years ago I had my DNA analysed and I am in fact a Pekignese-Schnauzer-Yorkshire Terrier, with a drop of Pomeranian-Jack Russel and just a smidgen of Boxer... yip, basically I'm just a paveMUNT special super-callused fragile mystic plagued with halitosis ;-D
